We lost Ozzy back in 2025, and while he started his career as the frontman of one of the most iconic bands in history, and one of the inventors of heavy metal, Black Sabbath, most people today probably know him just as well from his solo career. Although even he said he didn't truly know fame until he decided to let MTV follow him and his family around for the reality show "The Osbournes".
With all that said, Ozzy had a long career, with over 50 years in the music business and countless albums, so you may be wondering where to start. Many would say you should start with Black Sabbath, or with one of Ozzy's early solo albums like "Diary of a Madman". While I love Sabbath, and "Diary of a Madman" is amazing, "Ozzmosis" is, in my opinion, Ozzy at his absolute best.
It has a couple of classic Ozzy throwbacks in “Perry Mason” and “My Jekyll Doesn't Hide.” It has some slower tracks that, if you really listen to them, will bring a tear to your eye, like “See You on the Other Side” and “My Little Man.” Then you have some harder tracks in “Thunder Underground” and “Tomorrow.”
Love songs, inner turmoil, family, and contemplating death, this album has it all. It also flows incredibly well from beginning to end, and the differences in tone and heaviness from one song to the next are a big part of why it works so well. It's a great album to just sit down and listen to, or, in my experience, one of the greatest albums of all time to just drive around by yourself and blast through your speakers. It will make you feel things, whether you want to or not.
So, if you've never listened to an entire Ozzy album and you need somewhere to start, "Ozzmosis" is my recommendation. It's a 5 out of 5.
Rest in peace, Ozzy, and thanks for all the great music over the years.
