This is a new artist and song I recently discovered: Person and their song “My Old Baby.” While I’d like to give you a history of the band and what is happening with them, there isn’t much I can tell you about this group at the moment. From what I can tell from their social media and online presence, they formed sometime around or before 2021 and are based in Brooklyn, New York. They appeared on Dr. Bread’s show on Radio Free Brooklyn back on August 27th, just one day before their single “My Old Baby” was released online.
The song “My Old Baby” is how I discovered them. It has a distinctive sound that gives me vibes of 90s grunge with a little bit of The Doors thrown in there, and if you know my tastes, you know I’m a fan of both styles of rock. Person themselves describe their music as Brooklyn Cowpunk Music. What exactly that is, I have no clue, but hell, we’ll go with it. The frontman has a singing style that I can’t exactly describe. It’s very soft and melodic, and at times it seems to contradict the music itself, but not in a bad way. It works, and I think that’s exactly why I like this band.
If you like “My Old Baby,” I also recommend taking a listen to a couple of their other songs: “I Think I’m Going to Die” and “Windows,” a song they recorded in collaboration with First Umpire for their album Crave.

Addendum: Apparently, Cowpunk is a real genre (who knew?), mainly emerging in the 1980s and combining country and punk music. So now you know, and the more you know…
Let us know what you think of Person in the forum below. If you have any other information about the band, we’d love to hear it. Or hell, if you’re the band themselves, feel free to introduce yourselves to the RolnRock community!
